In considering the type of landscaping design that you will use, there are a number of styles that you may look at. These styles vary from a formal garden, an informal garden, an oriental garden, a woodland garden and an English garden. There are some other types of gardens that do not essentially lend themselves easily to a smaller property – the wildflower gardens and the rose gardens are among these types. Let us look at each type.

The formal garden

The straight lines and perfect geometrical shapes are the source for this type of landscaping ideas. The other traits of this type of garden are the use an arranged array of plants that are set closely and well trimmed.

The informal garden

The informal garden uses curved edges and random position of plants. A cozy cottage with a small yard belongs to these types of places that are suited to this type of  landscape design.

The English garden

The English garden put emphasis to the harmony between the architecture of the house and of the garden. The lines used in an English garden follow the lines of the house, hence, if the house has strong straight lines, the garden will also have. Thus, a sprawling home means a sprawling garden.

The oriental garden

The oriental garden is often the type of garden that is suitable in small backyards. You may be surprised to be familiar with that it uses rocks, evergreens and water. Use a wide variation of plants to make a number of interesting angles. The redwood pathways can be used to finish this garden off with a stylish touch.

The woodland garden

The woodland garden goes well with a house with a wooded backyard or a sloping ground. This is type of the garden where you can use some miniature pine trees, wildflowers, ferns and groundcover. This landscape design uses plants that grow well in a shade. The more wood used, the more the shade tolerance is required.

The mix of a formal and informal garden

The mix of a formal and informal garden often uses a brick pathway. This feature gives off formality and the walkway leads to a circle of plants at the back. Whilst the arrangement of plants resembles the English garden, however, there are no formal borders.

In order to design a landscape that will make you proud, you must spend some time on the planning stage because a well-planned design will be executed very well. The style of your home and the amount of ground is the first thing that you have to consider because if you have a small cottage, formal gardens surrounding it will look out of place. Your lifestyle must also be one of the things that you need to consider.

You must always know what you want but if you are in doubt, you may always contact a professional landscape artist to give you some advice and they may also do the project for you that are based on your desire.
